Abstract

This project examines the environmental impacts of various emergency response systems. Emergency response involves activities like firefighting, medical response, search and rescue, disaster relief, and law enforcement. These activities all have environmental consequences through their use of vehicles, equipment, facilities, and other resources. This project analyzes and compares the life cycle environmental impacts of different emergency response approaches and technologies. Areas of focus include fleet fuel usage and emissions, infrastructure energy usage, waste generation, chemical usage, and impacts of large-scale disaster response activities. The goal is to identify more sustainable practices and technologies that can help emergency response systems minimize their environmental footprint while still effectively serving communities.
