Abstract
This project analyzes and compares the various environmental impacts of common residential and commercial heating and cooling systems. Systems to be examined include natural gas furnaces, electric heat pumps, propane furnaces, fuel oil furnaces, electric baseboard heating, wood stoves, and central air conditioners. The environmental impacts to be assessed include air emissions, water and land usage, energy efficiency, waste generation, and effects on climate change. Through a literature review and analysis of available data, this project aims to identify the most environmentally sustainable and responsible options for space heating and cooling systems. The goal is to provide homeowners, building managers, and policymakers with information to make informed decisions that minimize negative impacts on the environment.
