Project Abstract

Solid waste management is a critical issue in Nigeria, as the improper handling and disposal of solid waste can have significant negative effects on business environments. This research project aims to investigate the impacts of solid waste on business environments in Nigeria and explore potential solutions to mitigate these effects. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Surveys will be conducted with businesses in various sectors to assess their experiences and challenges related to solid waste management. In-depth interviews will also be conducted with key stakeholders, such as waste management authorities and environmental experts, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issue. The findings of this research project are expected to reveal the various ways in which solid waste affects business environments in Nigeria. Solid waste can pose health risks to employees and customers, create unpleasant working conditions, and damage business reputations. Additionally, the improper disposal of solid waste can lead to environmental pollution, which can further impact business operations and profitability. The research will also explore the existing solid waste management practices in Nigeria and identify the gaps and challenges that businesses face in managing their waste effectively. Factors such as inadequate infrastructure, limited resources, and poor enforcement of regulations are likely to emerge as significant barriers to proper waste management in business environments. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations will be provided to help businesses improve their solid waste management practices. These recommendations may include implementing waste segregation programs, investing in waste reduction technologies, and fostering partnerships with waste management agencies. By adopting these recommendations, businesses can not only minimize the negative impacts of solid waste on their operations but also contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.
