Methane emissions from sanitary landfills and sewage treatment plants are significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. This research project aims to investigate and propose effective mitigation strategies to reduce methane emissions from these sources. The study will focus on assessing current methane generation rates and identifying key factors influencing methane production in landfill and sewage environments. Various mitigation options will be explored, including landfill gas recovery systems, biofiltration, anaerobic digestion, and other innovative technologies. The research will involve field investigations and laboratory experiments to quantify methane emissions and evaluate the performance of different mitigation techniques. Additionally, mathematical modeling will be utilized to simulate the effectiveness of various mitigation strategies under different operating conditions. Economic and environmental assessments will also be conducted to evaluate the cost-effectiveness and sustainability of the proposed mitigation measures. The findings of this research project are expected to provide valuable insights into the mitigation of methane emissions from sanitary landfills and sewage treatment plants. By identifying effective strategies for reducing methane release, this study aims to help mitigate climate change and promote sustainable waste management practices. The results of this research will be of interest to policymakers, environmental agencies, waste management professionals, and other stakeholders involved in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.
