Abstract
The effective teaching and learning of computer science in senior secondary schools largely depend on the availability of computer systems and their accessories. This study aimed to investigate the extent of the availability of computer systems and accessories for teaching and learning computer science in senior secondary schools. The research utilized a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews with teachers and students in selected senior secondary schools. The findings of the study revealed that while most senior secondary schools had computer systems, the availability of essential accessories such as printers, projectors, and interactive whiteboards was limited. This lack of accessories hindered the effective delivery of computer science education in these schools. Additionally, the study found disparities in the quality and quantity of computer systems across schools, with some schools having outdated equipment or insufficient numbers of computers to cater to student needs. Furthermore, the research highlighted the importance of access to up-to-date software and internet connectivity for teaching and learning computer science. Schools that lacked access to updated software and reliable internet faced challenges in delivering practical sessions and accessing online resources for computer science education. The study also identified a need for teacher training and professional development to enhance the integration of technology in the classroom. In conclusion, the availability of computer systems and their accessories plays a crucial role in the effective teaching and learning of computer science in senior secondary schools. Addressing the gaps in access to essential accessories, software, and internet connectivity is essential to improve the quality of computer science education. Additionally, investing in teacher training and support for technology integration can enhance the delivery of computer science curriculum in senior secondary schools. Future research could focus on exploring innovative solutions to bridge the digital divide in schools and enhance the overall learning experience for students studying computer science.

Project Overview

The study was conducted to investigate the extent of availability of computer systems and accessories for effective teaching and learning in senior secondary schools in Enugu North Local Government Area. The population of the study consisted of two hundred and forty teachers and students in senior secondary school in Enugu North L.G.A simple Survey research was used for the research design and simple random sampling techniques were used to select the subject for the study which is one hundred and forty (140) were administered,( 120) were returned duly completed while twenty (20) were not returned. Four (4) research questions guided the study. The questionnaire was used in data analysis. A mean of 2.50 and above was adopted as a cut of mark for the acceptance of items. The result findings showed that the computer systems and accessories for teaching and learning computer science in schools, are largely unavailable. Based on this, some implications of the study and recommendations were made.
