Project Abstract

Abstract
This research study aims to investigate the perception of undergraduate students in Nigerian universities regarding the use of information communication technology (ICT) for learning. ICT has become an integral part of modern education, offering various tools and resources to enhance the teaching and learning process. However, the effectiveness of ICT integration in education largely depends on how it is perceived and utilized by students. In the Nigerian higher education system, there has been a growing emphasis on incorporating ICT into teaching and learning practices, but little is known about how undergraduate students perceive and engage with these technologies. Through a mixed-methods approach, this study will explore the attitudes, experiences, and preferences of undergraduate students in Nigerian universities towards the use of ICT for learning. The research will involve both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on the topic. The participants will be selected from various disciplines and academic levels to ensure a diverse representation of student perspectives. The findings from this research will provide valuable insights into the current status of ICT integration in Nigerian universities and the challenges faced by students in utilizing these technologies for learning purposes. By understanding the perception of undergraduate students towards ICT, educators and policymakers can make informed decisions on how to improve the implementation and effectiveness of ICT in higher education. This study also aims to identify the factors that influence students' acceptance and utilization of ICT for learning, including access to technology, digital skills, attitudes towards technology, and perceived usefulness of ICT tools. By examining these factors, the research will offer recommendations for promoting a more conducive environment for integrating ICT into teaching and learning practices in Nigerian universities. Overall, this research contributes to the existing literature on ICT in education by providing a nuanced understanding of how undergraduate students in Nigerian universities perceive and interact with technology for learning. The findings will have implications for educational practices, curriculum development, and policy-making in higher education institutions seeking to enhance the quality of teaching and learning through ICT integration.

Project Overview

This study investigates the perception of undergraduate students’ on the use of mobile ICT for learning. Since the use of ICT in education is a new phenomenon, there is an urgent need to inquire of their impact and effect on the learner and the entire learning process. Undergraduate students were primary focus of the study because it is believed that they are all familiar with mobile ICT and their uses.

A researcher designed a questionnaire which was used to elucidate undergraduate students’ perception of the aforementioned topic. The study targeted all undergraduates in Nigerian Universities but those at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria were selected as sample for the study. 100 respondents were selected by random sampling. This sample cuts across five faculties in the University. These are: Arts, Communication and Information Science, Education, Law and Science.

The data was analyzed through the use of percentages. Results of data analysis showed that mobile Information and Communication Technologies, when appropriately used for learning, motivate students’ interest, enhances individualized instruction and generally improves their overall performance. It was recommended that since the world is now a global village, the use of mobile ICT for learning should be implemented in higher institutions. More importantly, students should be kept abreast of innovation in education.
