Abstract
Continuous assessment is a method of evaluating students' progress throughout the academic year rather than relying solely on end-of-year examinations. This research project aims to investigate the effect of continuous assessment in educational institutions. The study will explore the impact of continuous assessment on student learning outcomes, motivation, and overall academic performance. The research will utilize both qualitative and quantitative methods to gather data. Surveys and interviews will be conducted with students and teachers to understand their perspectives on continuous assessment. Additionally, academic records and test scores will be analyzed to compare the performance of students under continuous assessment with those under traditional assessment methods. One of the key factors to be examined is the influence of continuous assessment on student engagement and motivation. By providing students with regular feedback on their progress, continuous assessment is believed to enhance student motivation and encourage active participation in learning activities. The study will assess whether this increased motivation leads to improved academic performance and a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Furthermore, the research will investigate the impact of continuous assessment on teaching practices. Teachers play a crucial role in implementing continuous assessment strategies and providing constructive feedback to students. By examining teachers' experiences and perceptions, the study aims to identify best practices for integrating continuous assessment into the classroom effectively. The findings of this research project are expected to contribute to the ongoing discussion on assessment practices in education. By highlighting the benefits and challenges of continuous assessment, the study aims to provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers seeking to improve the quality of education. Ultimately, the goal is to promote a more holistic and student-centered approach to assessment that supports student learning and development. Project Overview

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Continuous assessment is a systematic process of accumulating comprehensive information on students for guidance purposes. This evaluation strategy was recommended in 1981 when the National policy on evaluation was made for the implementation of 6-3-3-4 educational system in Nigeria.

To atestify and evaluate to learning experience, continuous assessment are given to students to test their ability in acquisition and the reviewing of the knowledge they are acquiring. This is an effort positively put in place to evaluate what is been taught to the learner.

1.1 BACKROUND OF THE STUDY

The research project is recording its findings to the positive effect of continuous assessment and to know whether teachers are handling their profession effectively. The research focus on the importance or how positively continuous assessment has stimulated learning and teaching effectively, as well as teachers knowledge of their work.

1.2 STATEMENT OF RESEARCH PROBLEM

The national policy on education indicates that, the implementation of continuous assessment is fraught with problems both for the educational system in general and the teachers in particular thus include;

a. Teachers in the system are trained but do not implement the policy with desirable enthusiasm.

b. Teachers at primary levels do not access pupils in the three domains of learning as required.

c. The pupils on the other hand are not committed to continuous assessment and may fail.

The above identified problems have presented a major problem to the teachers in primary schools in Konshisha local government.
