Abstract
Oral mucositis is a common and debilitating side effect experienced by cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, leading to significant morbidity and decreased quality of life. Laser therapy has emerged as a promising intervention for managing oral mucositis, with its potential to reduce pain, inflammation, and promote tissue healing. This research aims to assess the efficacy of laser therapy in the management of oral mucositis in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. The study will adopt a quantitative research approach to investigate the impact of laser therapy on oral mucositis symptoms, including pain intensity, mucosal inflammation, and wound healing. A sample of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and experiencing oral mucositis will be recruited for the study. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group receiving laser therapy or the control group receiving standard care. Chapter One of the research will provide an introduction to the study, background information on oral mucositis, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two will present a comprehensive literature review covering ten key aspects related to oral mucositis, cancer treatment, laser therapy, and previous research findings. Chapter Three will detail the research methodology, including the research design, participant recruitment, data collection methods, laser therapy protocol, and outcome measures. The chapter will also address ethical considerations, data analysis procedures, and potential limitations of the study. In Chapter Four, the findings of the research will be discussed in detail, focusing on the efficacy of laser therapy in managing oral mucositis symptoms among cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. The chapter will explore the impact of laser therapy on pain relief, inflammation reduction, and tissue healing, comparing outcomes between the intervention and control groups. Finally, Chapter Five will present the conclusion and summary of the research project, highlighting the key findings, implications for clinical practice, limitations of the study, and recommendations for future research. The study aims to contribute to the growing body of evidence on the efficacy of laser therapy in improving the management of oral mucositis in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and quality of life.
