Abstract
This research project investigates the implementation of sustainable supply chain management practices in the retail industry. Sustainable supply chain management has gained significant importance in recent years as companies strive to reduce their environmental impact, improve social responsibility, and enhance economic performance. The retail industry, with its complex network of suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers, presents unique challenges and opportunities for implementing sustainable practices throughout the supply chain. The first chapter of the research provides an introduction to the topic, background information on sustainable supply chain management, a statement of the problem, research objectives, limitations, scope, significance of the study, structure of the research, and definitions of key terms. The second chapter consists of a comprehensive literature review that explores existing theories, frameworks, and empirical studies related to sustainable supply chain management practices in the retail industry. The literature review covers ten key areas, including green sourcing, reverse logistics, carbon footprint reduction, and stakeholder engagement. Chapter three details the research methodology employed in this study, including research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. The chapter also discusses the limitations and potential biases inherent in the research methodology. Chapter four presents the findings of the research, based on the analysis of data collected from interviews, surveys, and case studies conducted with key stakeholders in the retail supply chain. The discussion of findings includes seven key themes related to the implementation of sustainable practices in the retail industry. Finally, chapter five provides a conclusion and summary of the research project, highlighting the key findings, implications for practice, theoretical contributions, and recommendations for future research. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of integrating sustainable supply chain management practices into retail operations to achieve environmental, social, and economic sustainability goals. Overall, this research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable supply chain management in the retail industry and provides practical insights for retailers seeking to enhance their sustainability performance.
