Project Abstract

Abstract
The use of natural products as feed additives in poultry production has gained significant attention due to their potential health benefits and the increasing demand for antibiotic-free animal products. This study aimed to investigate the physiological response of broiler birds to oral supplementation with Aloe vera and Neem leaf extracts. A total of 120 day-old broiler chicks were randomly divided into four groups control (no supplementation), Aloe vera extract supplementation, Neem leaf extract supplementation, and a combination of Aloe vera and Neem leaf extracts. The supplementation was administered orally through drinking water for a period of 42 days. Physiological parameters including body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, serum biochemical profiles, and antioxidant status were evaluated at different time points during the study. The results indicated that broiler birds supplemented with Aloe vera extract showed improved body weight gain and feed conversion ratio compared to the control group. Birds supplemented with Neem leaf extract also exhibited similar trends in growth performance parameters. Interestingly, the group receiving a combination of Aloe vera and Neem leaf extracts demonstrated the highest body weight gain and the most efficient feed conversion ratio among all groups. Furthermore, serum biochemical analyses revealed that supplementation with Aloe vera and Neem leaf extracts led to favorable alterations in lipid profiles, liver function markers, and protein levels compared to the control group. The antioxidant status of the birds was also significantly enhanced following supplementation with the extracts, as evidenced by increased levels of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and reduced glutathione in the serum. In conclusion, oral supplementation with Aloe vera and Neem leaf extracts positively influenced the physiological response of broiler birds, as reflected in improved growth performance, favorable alterations in serum biochemical profiles, and enhanced antioxidant status. The combination of Aloe vera and Neem leaf extracts exhibited synergistic effects on growth performance parameters, suggesting the potential use of these natural supplements as alternatives to conventional growth promoters in broiler production. Further research is warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and optimize the dosage levels for maximizing the health benefits of these botanical extracts in poultry diets.
