Abstract
The welfare of animals in captivity, particularly in zoo settings, has become an increasing concern in recent years. Environmental enrichment has been identified as a key factor in promoting positive behaviors and overall well-being among zoo animals. This research project aims to investigate the impact of environmental enrichment on the behavior and welfare of captive zoo animals. The study will begin with an exploration of the theoretical framework surrounding environmental enrichment, including its importance in providing mental and physical stimulation for animals in captivity. A review of relevant literature will highlight existing research on the effects of environmental enrichment on animal behavior and welfare, emphasizing the need for further investigation in this area. Methodology The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods to provide a comprehensive understanding of the impact of environmental enrichment on captive zoo animals. Data will be collected through direct observation of animal behavior, as well as through surveys and interviews with zookeepers and animal behavior experts. Findings The findings of the study will be presented and discussed in Chapter Four, highlighting the observed changes in animal behavior and welfare resulting from the implementation of environmental enrichment strategies. The discussion will also explore the practical implications of these findings for zoo management and animal care practices. Conclusion In conclusion, this research project aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the importance of environmental enrichment in promoting the well-being of captive zoo animals. By highlighting the positive effects of environmental enrichment on animal behavior and welfare, this study seeks to provide valuable insights for improving the care and management of animals in zoo settings.
