Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of probiotics on the gut microbiome in poultry farming. The poultry industry plays a crucial role in providing a sustainable source of protein for human consumption. However, maintaining the health and productivity of poultry flocks is a constant challenge due to various factors, including disease outbreaks and the need to reduce the use of antibiotics in response to concerns about antimicrobial resistance. Probiotics, defined as live microorganisms that confer health benefits when administered in adequate amounts, have emerged as a promising alternative to antibiotics in promoting poultry health and performance. The study will be conducted through a series of experiments on broiler chickens, focusing on the effects of probiotic supplementation on the composition of the gut microbiome and its implications for poultry health and productivity. By analyzing the changes in the microbial diversity and abundance in the gut of chickens exposed to probiotics, this research aims to provide insights into the mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of probiotics on poultry gut health. Chapter One of the research will provide an introduction to the topic, background information on probiotics and the gut microbiome, the problem statement, objectives of the study, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definitions of key terms. Chapter Two will present a comprehensive literature review covering ten key aspects related to probiotics, the gut microbiome, and poultry farming. Chapter Three will detail the research methodology, including experimental design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, and statistical analysis approaches. Chapter Four will present the findings of the study, discussing the impact of probiotics on the gut microbiome composition, microbial diversity, and potential correlations with poultry health parameters such as growth performance and disease resistance. The discussion will delve into the implications of these findings for poultry farming practices and the potential for probiotics to serve as a sustainable solution for enhancing poultry health and productivity. Finally, Chapter Five will offer a conclusion and summary of the research findings, highlighting key insights, implications for the poultry industry, recommendations for future research, and potential applications of probiotics in poultry farming. Overall, this research project aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the use of probiotics to improve poultry gut health and productivity, ultimately supporting the sustainability and viability of the poultry industry.
